With Jonne and Minne, you can also pay by contactless payment!
Contactless payment is a convenient way to pay for your trip with a debit card or other payment method suitable for contactless payment, such as your phone.
Paying with contactless payment

1. Select the contactless payment button on the screen.

2. Select the zones where you plan to travel

3. Insert the payment device into the debit reader on the left side of the device. The device acknowledges a successful purchase with a beep and a green OK sign

4. If you continue your journey on another bus, show the same payment method to the reader again, so that your change is free of charge within the changeover period.
Contactless Payment for Bus Journeys
Payment for your own trip only: You can only pay for your own journey using contactless payment. You cannot use the same method to pay for the journey of another passenger. If you wish to pay for someone else’s journey, you must use a different contactless payment method or another form of payment (cash, mobile ticket, or Waltti travel card).
Receipts: You can obtain receipts from the customer portal. For mobile wallet receipts (e.g., Wallet), you can request them by email at joukkoliikenne@kotka.fi. Be sure to include the last 4 digits of your bank card number (from your mobile device, not your bank card number). You will not receive a receipt for contactless payments on the bus.
Issues with Contactless Payment: If your contactless payment device is not working or unavailable, it does not entitle you to travel for free. If the payment system fails, you can still pay using a mobile ticket, Waltti card, or cash (max. €20 note). The driver cannot cancel your purchase, such as when you make a mistake while entering the number. The responsibility lies with the customer.
Prices and zones
Price for contactless payment: The price is the same for all passengers, regardless of age or category. The fare is determined by the number of travel zones you enter.
Always choose the zones you plan to travel in for each trip. If you select zone A but then decide to continue from zone A to zone B, you will need to purchase a new ticket for zone B and pay for it separately.
In the Kotka and Pyhtää area’s minibuses (Jyrkilä), debit card payments work differently from the rest of the transport system. The ticket price is the same as for cash purchases. This is due to differences in equipment.
Hamina’s minibuses use two different types of equipment, meaning some buses have a local fare system while others use a cash fare system. Tickets purchased at the local fare cannot be used on buses that operate with a cash fare.
Ticket validity and right of exchange
Ticket validity: A contactless single ticket is valid for 60 minutes within one zone and 90 minutes within two zones. For technical reasons, the validity period is temporarily 90 minutes for all zone trips. During this period, you can change buses free of charge within the zones purchased.
When transferring, use the same method of contactless payment for all stages of your journey. Different payment methods, such as a physical debit card and a debit card on your phone, are treated as separate payments.
Hamina minibuses have two types of payment systems. Tickets purchased with contactless payment can’t be used to transfer to certain Hamina minibuses, depending on the type of equipment.
Payment Methods
- Accepted cards for contactless payment: Visa, Visa Electron, Mastercard, and Eurocard.
- Cards linked to smart devices (e.g., phone) are also valid.
Ensure your card has contactless payment enabled or that the payment app on your smart device is linked to your payment card.
Note: You cannot use contactless payment to load value or season tickets onto a Waltti travel card.
Receipt and payment verification
You will not receive a receipt for contactless payments on the bus. The fare is calculated automatically in the system based on your journey within the ticket’s validity period. A pre-authorization will be made to your bank account before the final charge.
You can check your payments, journeys, and print receipts via the customer portal.
For receipts from mobile wallets (e.g., Wallet), send a request to joukkoliikenne@kotka.fi. Don’t forget to include the last 4 digits of your payment card number from your mobile device.
PIN Code and Contactless Payment
When using contactless payment, no PIN is required. However, if your card asks for a PIN, it will not work on the bus. In this case, use your card at a bank terminal (example in a shop) to enter your PIN.
If the card is not working, you are not entitled to a free ride.
